LET IT GO

"Let it go" was the sound I heard in my room where my toddler was singing it aloud. These three words were so catchy that somehow it got stuck in my mind and made me realize that I too need to let go of many things in my life and hold on to God more tightly. These days I am meditating on the book of Job. The Book of Job is a wonderful book which teaches us many things when we go through the various trials of life. I really admire Job, who was able to worship God in the midst of his losses. As I started reading Job, I had to push myself to read the whole chapters as the majority of the book of Job contains harsh judgments from his friends. Eighty percent of the book of Job is all about Job's friends' opinions about him and the way they misjudged him. And the last five chapters are about God and His word. But those five chapters were enough to lift Job up from the ashes of the pit. Job felt miserable as long as he dwelled on the opinions of others, but the moment his eyes were opened to see God and hear His word, he repented and was restored.

“I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear, But now my eye sees You. Therefore I abhor myself, And repent in dust and ashes.”

Job 42:5‭-‬6

That's so true about us too. The opinion of others about us matters so much to us. We are affected, when we get to know that someone has a different opinion about us than what we expected. And the more we dwell on that, the more it makes our lives miserable. But the moment you see God, and the way God sees you, it all changes. It doesn't matter what others think; what matters is what God says and thinks about you. What matters is who God is and who we are in God . And the truth is that no matter who you are, there is someone whose love for you knows no bounds.

" There is someone whose love knows no bounds or boundaries.

And he knows me in and out

Still, he loves all of me. "

This wonderful knowledge of God sets you free from the shackles of judgments and insecurities.

And the Lord restored Job’s losses when he prayed for his friends. Indeed the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.

Job 42:10

I was encouraged by the above verse where it says when he prayed for his friends. Yes, God asked Job to pray for his friends who misunderstood him and who during his time of trial were not able to comfort him but rather added to his affliction.

"I've heard many such things; you're all miserable comforters!"

Job 16:2

Was it easy for Job to forgive and forget?

We cannot forget those who stood with us in our times of trial. We will always be indebted to them. In the same way, we cannot forget those who made us feel terrible through their harsh judgements. We feel a natural resentment towards them and would not like to be with them. But God desires that we forgive and pray for them. In short we need to let it go.

God will restore us when we free ourselves from all kinds of bondage of negativity, resentment, and grudges. He blesses us twice when we take that small step of forgiving seventy times seven. Love and forgiveness are at the core of God's heart. He expects the same from his children too. What you fill your heart with is what you spill out. We often pray-"God please be merciful to me and forgive all my iniquities". In that single statement, we expect God to forgive and forget all of the times we disobeyed Him and fell short of His expectations. God is perfect and holy , imagine how much He has to bear with our falls and failures. If such a great and big God humbles Himself to the point that He forgives us and bears with us the dust, then what are we, that we carry such pride and arrogance and find it difficult to bear with others? Often, we desire mercy for ourselves and justice and judgement for others.

Are you still holding on to the grudges and hatred in your heart? Then God is saying LET IT GO

Are you still holding on to the guilt of your past life ? Then you need to LET IT GO.

Are you hurt by being judged by others ? Then LET IT GO and hold on to God .

Like Job, may God help us to let go of all bitterness, anguish, and hatred. Let us stop and consider the wonders of God. Let this be our daily prayer: "Lord, empty me of me so that I can be filled with you. Lord, empty me of all kinds of malice so that I can be filled with your love, joy, and peace .
