Job's Daughters

The first daughter he named Jemimah, the second Keziah, and the third, Keren-Happuch. Nowhere in all the land were there found women as beautiful as Job's daughters, and their father granted them an inheritance alongh with their brothers.

Job 2:14-15

The story of Job in the Bible teaches many valuable lessons of life. After the season of suffering, God blessed the later days of Job more than his beginning. God blessed Job with seven sons and three daughters. It is interesting to see that in this account, Job's daughters' names are mentioned. These names have their significance. These names give us hope. These names tell us that there is a morning after every night, a peace after the storm .

Let us see the meaning of these names. He called the one Jemima, because her beauty was as the day; the other he called Kezia, because she was precious like cassia and full of fragrance; and the third he called Kerenhappuch, because great was the brightness of the glory of her countenance, as the emerald.

Such beautiful names and such beautiful meanings. The moment Job held his first daughter, he remembered the faithfulness of God- how God brought Job out of that night of affliction and dismay into the day, and so he named her Jemima, which means day. Jemima also means "dove," which is a symbol of peace. Her name shows how Job was experiencing God's divine peace after those restless nights of trials and adversity.

The name Kezia means precious and full of fragrance, which shows how Job was delivered from those painful boils and their awful stench, and now his life is full of divine fragrance.

Kerenhappuch means beauty; Job remembered his face, which was fouled with weeping. God has now lifted up Job's countenance.

Peace, fragrance, and beauty were the fruits of Job's suffering. There comes a season of rest after a season of struggle. There comes a day of peace after the night of mourning . Yes, no matter what trial we face , it's not going to be the same forever. This too shall pass, and what awaits us is the peace, fragrance, and beauty of Christ. After we have persevered through the trials of life, the crown of life awaits us.

If you are in the season of suffering and wondering if anything good awaits you , then remember your God who gives joy irrespective of your circumstances, who gives peace in the midst of a storm , who lavishes His mercy on the undeserved and His unconditional love for the sinners!!
